Translational medicine (TM) is defined by the European Society for Translational Medicine (EUSTM) as an interdisciplinary branch of the biomedical field supported by three main pillars: benchside, bedside and community. The goal of TM is to combine disciplines, resources, expertise, and techniques within these pillars and to promote enhancements in prevention, diagnosis, and therapies.
During the presentation we will analyze:
- The impact of research in public health.
- Major problems on the pipeline evaluation.
- The “valley of death” (time from basic research to clinical application).
- The different stages of TM.
- What to expect from TM.
- What not to expect from TM.
- The importance of the different actors in the process.
- Some success stories on how to jump the “valley of death”.
