Jordi Llop, head of the Radiochemistry and Nuclear Imaging laboratory at CIC biomaGUNE and president of the European Society for Molecular Imaging (ESMI), welcomed various ESMI members to CIC biomaGUNE on 20 June. The visiting members, Doris Kracht and Annette Klein, came to the Basque Country to organize the 20th European Molecular Imaging Meeting, scheduled to be held at the Euskalduna Conference Center in Bilbao from 11 to 14 March, 2025.
Jordi Llop, expert in the development of new imaging agents, guided the visitors through CIC biomaGUNE facilities. The tour included the Molecular Imaging Facility, designated as a Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) by the Spanish Government and one of the most complete preclinical imaging research infrastructures in Europe.
The European Society for Molecular Imaging (ESMI) represents the scientific community involved in multidisciplinary molecular imaging science. This includes basic, preclinical, translational, and clinical research on imaging technologies, methodologies, biomarkers and probes, modelling and data analysis.
Central to its mission is the creation of a collaborative community to pursue new ideas to image biological processes. ESMI strives to transfer this knowledge from experimental imaging studies to the implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
“The ESMI will be celebrating its 20th anniversary at the congress in Bilbao. It has grown from a few dozen members to about 1,400 not only in Europe. It is a society that is growing a lot, which also shows that the field of molecular imaging is growing significantly,” said Llop.
