Four Short Courses for PhDers

Each year the UPV/EHU Doctoral School and Euskampus Fundazioa offer four PhD courses under the title Foundations of Research Practices, which I teach. These are short intensive courses intended to provide a good place to start to develop and strengthen some needed research practices, and which are designed for small groups of mixed discipline PhDers. I will present a short introduction to each of the four courses, and explain how they work, and then be happy to take any comments of question about them. We are keen to reach and attract more PhDers working in Research Centres in the Basque Autonomous Community. The arrival of Generative AI systems in our worlds of research is, inevitably, provoking plenty of excitement, anxiety, and questions, which we need, collectively, to work out how to respond to. I will use this short presentation and question session to ask a little about how PhDers are using, or not using, Generative AI systems in their PhDing. This topic has a strong presence in all four of the PhD course I teach, and I am keen to keep this useful in guiding well how PhDers should think about and use these new systems in their research.
