The European South Atlantic Biophysics Congress ESAB 2024 will be taking place at the Kursaal Congress Centre in Donostia-San Sebastian from 5-7 June, 2024.
CIC biomaGUNE’s scientific director Prof Aitziber Cortajarena is President of the Organizing and Scientific Committee (SBE) of the Congress.
The event is being organized as a joint effort by the Spanish SBE, French SFB, and Portuguese SPBf Biophysical Societies to bring together scientists so that they can present their most exciting biophysical research work.
This congress is the first event as part of a regional agreement between the three societies designed to organize regular congresses promoting biophysics, especially among young scientists in the South-West of Europe. It will provide an excellent opportunity for researchers to meet and discuss opportunities to collaborate in a genuinely multidisciplinary environment in the field of Biophysics.
The event will bring together researchers and students mostly based in France, Spain, and Portugal, but also European researchers who are interested in the most recent advances in the field of Biophysics. In fact, the participation of the three societies will broaden the networking activities and the dissemination of knowledge in biophysics.
The congress is expected to attract around 350 participants mainly from the field of Biophysics, such as scientists in academia, business and government, and thus generate a highly qualified audience. The scientific programme has yet to be finalized. However, a distinctive group of international keynote speakers and a large, diverse number of invited speakers are expected to present their most notable results in various topics such as Biophysics and Health, Protein Structure and Dynamics, Nucleic Acids and Supramolecular Complexes, Receptors, Channels and Transporters, Cell and Tissue Biophysics, Membrane Structure and Function, System Biophysics, Computational Biophysics in Health and Biological Physics. So contributions at the cutting edge of biophysical research in the broadest sense are expected to be represented.
The event will also include a Satellite Workshop on 4-5 June, 2024, focussing on early-stage researchers, with a total attendance of 50 students.
The hope is that this Congress will become recognized as a reference in Europe for a large, diverse community of researchers and companies working in Biophysics, with a particular focus on young biophysicists.
