Members of the Royal Academy of Sciences visit CIC biomaGUNE

This morning, the center for cooperative research in biomaterials CIC biomaGUNE hosted the annual meeting of full and corresponding academicians of the Physical and Chemical Sciences section of the Royal Academy of Sciences. The RAC’s mission is to promote study and research in the Mathematical, Physical, Chemical, Geological and Biological Sciences and their applications, and also to further their knowledge. One of its main functions is to advise the Government on matters within its competence, particularly those relating to scientific policy that may have a bearing on the country's scientific and technological development.

The day began with the presentation of CIC biomaGUNE by its scientific director, the Ikerbasque Research Professor Aitziber López-Cortajarena, followed by a tour of the center's facilities. The full and corresponding academicians of the Physical and Chemical Sciences section of the Royal Academy of Sciences then held their annual meeting, after which they attended a lecture delivered by the professor and corresponding academician Miguel Ángel Martín-Delgado, professor at the Complutense University of Madrid.

Four CIC biomaGUNE research professors are academicians of the Royal Society of Sciences: the Ikerbasque Research Professor Luis Liz-Marzán is a full academician; the Ikerbasque Research Professor Aitziber L. Cortajarena is a corresponding academician in the Physics and Chemistry Section; CIC biomaGUNE’s CEO José María Mato is a corresponding academician in the Natural Sciences section; and the Ikerbasque Research Professor and AXA research professor Maurizio Prato is a foreign corresponding academician in the Chemical and Physical Sciences section. In addition, the Ikerbasque Research Professor Fernando López-Gallego is an academician of the Young Academy.
