ERC Starting Grants Awarded to Former CIC biomaGUNE Ph.D. Students and Visiting Researcher

Former Ph.D. students of CIC biomaGUNE, Danijela Gregurec and Leonardo Scarabelli, have been awarded the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant. This competitive funding aims to support promising researchers in establishing their own independent research teams.

Danijela Gregurec is currently Junior Professor for Sensory Sciences at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy in Friedrich-Alexander-Universität in Erlangen-Nürnberg. Her project focuses on the development of wireless bidirectional deep brain interfaces with magnetic anisotropic nanomaterials.

Leonardo Scarabelli, who is a "La Caixa" Junior Leader at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), specializes in materials science research. His project is centred on advancing the fabrication of nanostructured surfaces through an innovative technique called "chemical contrast in situ growth" (CC-iSG).

Additionally, Elke Debroye, who spent time at CIC biomaGUNE as a visiting researcher and is currently Assistant Professor tenure track in the KU Leuven Chemistry Department in Belgium, has also been granted an ERC Starting Grant. Debroye's project focuses on developing new materials towards less harmful X-ray imaging.
