Through the Bilateral Spanish-Italian González-Ciamician 2021 award, the Italian Society of Chemistry (SCI) has recognized the Ikerbasque Research Professor Luis Liz-Marzán, lead researcher of CIC biomaGUNE’s BioNanoPlasmonics group and of CIBER-BBN, “for his significant achievements and for his pioneering work in nanoparticle synthesis and assembly, in nanoplasmonics and in the development of sensors and diagnostic tools using nanoparticles”.
Bilateral awards come about as a result of agreements between the chemical societies of different countries to promote collaboration work among researchers from both countries and to publicize the activity of both in a complementary way. In fact, the award consists of an invitation to give lectures at three universities in different Italian cities.
In the opinion of Professor Liz-Marzán, “all awards have their own special value. Throughout my career I have collaborated with many Italian colleagues and I have good friends there. In this context, having been selected by the Italian Chemical Society as worthy of this award, means receiving the appreciation of those colleagues and their scientific community. At the same time, the opportunity to visit various institutions always offers the chance to discuss science in different contexts”.
This recognition comes in the wake of many others received throughout his career, such as the 2020 Franco-Spanish Catalan-Sabatier Award, the 2018 Enrique Moles National Research Award, the Dupont Award for Science, the Jaime I Award for Research, the Medal of the RSEQ-Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry, and the Lilly Award for Biomedical Research.
In the context of these bilateral recognitions, CIC biomaGUNE is delighted to announce that on November 15 at our research center Professor Marcella Bonchio of the University of Padua will be receiving the 2021 Spanish-Italian award given by the RSEQ to researchers in Italy. This award once again highlights the excellent relations that exist among the international scientific community.
