ChemPubSoc Europe Fellows Programme

Established in 2015, the ChemPubSoc Europe Fellowship is the highest award given by the organization to recognize outstanding support and contributions from its members. New fellows are announced in the weeks leading up to the biennial EuChemS Congress, this year to be held in Liverpool. This Virtual Issue showcases a selection of contributions from the Fellows class of 2016/2017 (see list below) that have been published in the ChemPubSoc Europe journals and Angewandte Chemie.

Customizing the Electrochemical Properties of Carbon Nanodots by Using Quinones in Bottom‐Up Synthesis

A simple bottom‐up strategy, based on fast and controlled microwave heating, for the synthesis of carbon nanodots (CNDs) with customized redox potentials, by employing quinones as electroactive precursors, is reported. The electron transfer properties of these CNDs for the photoreduction of methyl viologen are demonstrated, showing their potential in photocatalysis.

Synthesis and Catalytic Activity of Gold Nanoparticles Supported on Dendrimeric Nanocellulose Hybrids

Alkynyl‐dendrons of the PAMAM family were covalently attached to azide‐linked cellulose nanocrystals using click chemistry and then used as templates for the preparation of stable and monodispersed gold nanoparticles in aqueous media. The new materials were evaluated as catalysts for the reduction of 4‐nitrophenyl and displayed enhanced activity relative to other supported AuNPs.
