Professor Jesús Ruiz Cabello will lead the Molecular and Functional Biomarkers Laboratory, where his work will be focused on projects for the discovery of different biomarkers for early detection and diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension.
Jesús Ruiz Cabello graduated in Chemistry at the University of Granada in 1986 and was granted a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the Department of Pharmacology at Georgetown University and at the NMR Research Center of The National Institutes of Health. He later worked as a visiting professor in the Department of Radiology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Baltimore, USA) and, since 2009, has been Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Prof. Cabello is also the Assistant Scientific Director of the Centre for Network Biomedical Research of Respiratory Diseases (CIBERES). He joins CIC biomaGUNE from the Universidad Complutense and the Spanish Cardiovascular Research Centre, where he has been Head of the Advanced Imaging Unit for the last five years.
Throughout his career as a researcher, Prof Cabello has specialised in pulmonary and cardiovascular imaging, using both magnetic resonance and molecular imaging. As senior researcher in the Molecular and Functional Biomarkers Laboratory at CIC biomaGUNE, Prof. Cabello will continue to work in the same research areas as those he has been working on in recent years, and will also be collaborating in other projects and with other researchers of the centre, particularly in the fields of nanotechnology and tracers.
