The Centre for Cooperative Research in Biomaterials (CIC biomaGUNE) has today celebrated its 10th anniversary with a 1-day scientific seminar. All 130 people working at the Centre’s offices and laboratories in the Science and Technology Park of Gipuzkoa have taken part in the seminar.
After the initial welcome speeches given by Jose María Mato, General Director of CIC biomaGUNE, and Luis Liz Marzán, the Scientific Director of the Centre, Professor Soledad Penadés, also of CIC biomaGUNE, spoke of the work done by the Laboratory of Glyconanotechnology that she herself has headed in the research centre for these last ten years.
Prof. Penadés was followed by Professor Helmuth Möhwald from the Max-Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Golm, Germany), whose paper was centred on functional films and capsules for biomedical applications. Prof. Möhwald is a member of the CIC biomaGUNE International Scientific Committee.
Dr. Juan C. Mareque (CIC biomaGUNE) focused his intervention on the potentially perfect partnership between molecular imaging, nanoparticles and the immune system for cancer immunotherapy.
Finally, Prof. Jesús María Ruiz Cabello, Senior Researcher at the Spanish National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC, Madrid), gave a talk on new horizons in cardiovascular and pulmonary molecular and cellular imaging.
In the course of these ten years, CIC biomaGUNE has established itself as a nationally and internationally recognised leader in the field of science and as a knowledge builder in the field of biomaterials. Amongst other achievements, this has led to the generation of new knowledge (publications, patents, etc.), collaboration with international bodies and institutions and to its technological equipment and scientific personnel being at the service of the scientific community and business fabric.
