Dr. Pamina M. Winkler, Ikerbasque and Ramón y Cajal Research Associate at CIC biomaGUNE, San Sebastián (Spain), welcomes expressions of interest from predoctoral researchers to jointly apply to the 2026 grants for the Training of University Academic Staff (FPU). Dr. Pamina M. Winkler is establishing her research line focused on deciphering protein interactions under the influence of small molecules and other biomedicinally relevant factors. Projects to be carried out, lie at the interface of biophysics, cell biology, biological and physical chemistry, and are focused on:

  • Deciphering the role of metabolites on protein interaction dynamics and shape in solution.
  • Design and benchmarking a correlative approach based on imaging and biophysical techniques to monitor protein interactions in solution and on biological membranes.
  • Studying protein interaction dynamics on biological membranes by advanced imaging and time-lapse atomic force microscopy.
  • Probing the dynamics of intrinsically disordered proteins in presence of small molecules and other biomedicinally relevant factors in solutions and in (living) biological systems.

The applicant, according to his previous background and interests, could participate or combine any of the above-mentioned research lines.

Required Education Level:

A BsC and MSc in a relevant area of (bio-)chemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, or related areas.

Meet the academic requirements necessary to be enrolled in a doctoral programme at the time of joining de Centre.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

Experience in the fields of protein chemistry, bioimaging techniques, and computational method development are positively evaluated.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be enrolled in or admitted to a doctoral programme for the 2026/2027 academic year, or be eligible to enrol when the contract begins.
  • Not hold a doctoral degree at the time of application.
  • Not have previously received a predoctoral grant for their doctoral training.
  • Not have previously held a predoctoral contract for more than 12 months.
  • Have a strong academic record.
  • Appear in only one FPU application; applicants included in more than one application will be excluded from all applications.
Duration:

I will jointly apply with the selected student for this grant: Training of University Academic Staff (FPU). More details at call website in the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) website.

The maximum duration of the action is 4 years from your joining the institution. Within those 4 years, a postdoctoral orientation period (POP) of up to 12 months is included, which begins when you defend your thesis, provided the defence takes place during the execution period.
