On the occasion of International Women's Day (#8M), CIC biomaGUNE reaffirms its commitment to gender equality and diversity, highlighting the significant progress made in recent years.
As part of its ongoing efforts, CIC biomaGUNE has recently approved the 2nd Gender Equality and Diversity Plan (2025-2028), which strengthens its dedication to fostering equal opportunities and enhancing the visibility and representation of women in science through proactive measures and initiatives.
Currently, 61% of CIC biomaGUNE's staff are women, and the Centre remains committed to ensuring gender balance at all levels, including Directorate, Management, and Senior positions.
To mark International Women's Day, CIC biomaGUNE has joined the "NI FEMINISTA NAIZ" campaign, promoted by Emakunde, which seeks to recognize the contributions of feminism to society and highlight the progress made in achieving gender equality.
The number of research groups led by women has increased from two to three, now accounting for 27.27% of the total, reflecting the Centre’s ongoing commitment to promoting female leadership in science. At the same time, improvements in work-life balance policies have allowed four employees to maintain their full working hours without the need for reductions, thanks to the implementation of more flexible and supportive measures. Furthermore, recruitment processes have reinforced gender diversity, ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates, while awareness campaigns continue to foster an inclusive and respectful workplace culture that supports diversity and representation at all levels.
These milestones demonstrate CIC biomaGUNE’s dedication to creating an inclusive and equitable work environment, where women scientists are empowered to thrive. The Centre will continue to develop and implement initiatives that promote equal representation and foster a diverse research community.
